Enser Biogas GmbH benefits from new WANGEN BIO-FEED technology

The correct feeding of solid and liquid substrate into a digester is very important for the economical and efficient operation of a Biogas plant.

Enser Biogas GmbH has been a customer of WANGEN Pumpen since 2013. Mr Düser, who is responsible for technical optimisation, successfully uses a WANGEN BIO-MIX pump as a substrate dosing pump.

Mr. Düser wanted to replace a second feed screw substrate introduction system. He opted for the WANGEN BIO-FEED around a year ago as an additional feeder system. The BIO-FEED pump einsures pre-mixing of the liquid substrate with the solid substrate within the pump housing. The solid substrate is conveyed into the pump housing using the screw auger of the solid substrate storage container. "We´ve not had any downtime with the WANGEN BIO-FEED", comments Mr. Düser. "The BIO-FEED works perfectly. We´ve not had to replace any parts after operating it for 10 months and approx. 13,500 tonnes of input fed in."

The pump housing of the WANGEN BIO-FEED features four DN150 connections and one DN400 connection, which can also be used as clean-out ports and to flush out the pump housing.

Mr. Düser goes on to describe further benefits of the new BIO-FEED compared to his previous screw feed system. "With the previous screw feed system he had a lot more substrate floating layers in the digester. A lot more mixing was required to mix the substrate within the digester! Thanks to the liquid / solid substrate premixing within the WANGEN BIO-FEED pump housing, the agitators have to mix considerably less and the medium starts converting into energy immediately!" With the new BIO-FEED system it is much easier for microbes to break down the pre-mixed substrate. Further Mr. Düser said: "We need approx. 2 kWh/tonne of feed-in material – whereas previously we needed approx. 5 kWh/tonne with the screw-feed system. We are very happy with the energy savings, and are below our budget expenditure."
